Complete uninstall
To remove FindDiskKiller and all its components from your Mac:
Step 1: Stop active tracing
If you have file tracing active, stop it before quitting:
- Click Stop in any open tracing panel.
- Close all FindDiskKiller windows.
Step 2: Quit the app
- Right-click (or Control-click) the FindDiskKiller icon in the Dock.
- Select Quit. Alternatively, press Command-Q while the app is active.
Step 3: Remove the background component
Open System Settings > General > Login Items & Extensions. Under Background Items or Allow in Background, find the FindDiskKiller helper and toggle it off or remove it.
If you have already deleted the app, macOS may show a “damaged or missing” background item that you can remove by clicking the ⓘ icon and selecting Move to Trash.
Step 4: Delete the application
- Open your Applications folder in Finder.
- Drag FindDiskKiller.app to the Trash.
- Empty the Trash (Finder > Empty Trash).
Step 5: Remove preferences (optional)
The app stores preferences in the standard macOS preferences system. To remove them:
defaults delete com.finddiskkiller.app
Replace com.finddiskkiller.app with the actual bundle identifier if different.
Verification
To verify that everything has been removed:
- Check that FindDiskKiller is no longer in your Applications folder.
- In System Settings > General > Login Items & Extensions, confirm no FindDiskKiller items remain.
No other files are installed outside of the application bundle. FindDiskKiller does not install kernel extensions, launch daemons, or launch agents.
